DAY 1

San Jose, Costa Rica – Volcán Poás (20 minutes transfer approx. — 12 KM)

Welcome to San Jose, Costa Rica!

Reception at the Juan Santamaria International Airport and transfer to your hotel.

Very close to the capital, in the province of Alajuela, you will find your hotel on the slopes of the Poas Volcano. From here, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Central Valley that will welcome you to our beautiful land.

DAY 2

Poas Volcano – Arenal Volcano (4.5 hrs – 137 KM)

Breakfast in the hotel.

Transfer in the morning to the Alajuela province to visit another of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica. The Poás Volcano has one of the world’s largest craters. It rises above the mountainous forests of the Central Volcanic Range. You will visit the Poás Volcano National Park, which boasts magnificent cloud forest landscapes. You also will see coffee plantations and enjoy the local culture of communities surrounding the park.

DAY 3

Arenal Volcano

This morning you will visit the Arenal 1968 Mirador Park, where you can explore the trails (self-guided) and observe abundant flora and fauna. During your hike, you can see and follow the old lava flows of 1968 that lead to a viewpoint. With some luck, you will have the imposing and majestic Arenal Volcano in front of you.

DAY 4

Arenal Volcano

Today you will visit the enchanting Celeste River, whose vivid sky blue color makes it a popular attraction in the Tenorio Volcano National Park. Explore the park on a 4.5-mile (7 km) hike through the rainforest to the waterfall and “Los Teñideros,” which means “the dyeing pools” and is the point where the river begins its unique color. You will also visit the famous “Borbollones” or bubbling pools to learn more about volcanic activity. As you walk along the trails, you might meet some resident animals passing through the forest. Finally, your reward will be an exquisite traditional lunch.

DAY 5

Arenal Volcano – Rincón de la Vieja (3.5 hrs. 189 KM)

Today you travel to the Guanacaste Province to the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, one of the five most active volcanoes in Costa Rica. Rincón de la Vieja is considered a fascinating volcano due to its unique characteristics, like sulfurous lagoons, relaxing thermal springs, boiling mud pits, fumaroles, and its main active crater. Lush, dense vegetation surrounds the area, home to a plethora of insect and wildlife species.

DAY 6

Rincón de la Vieja

This morning, you will go on a guided hike in the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park, where you will find varied vegetation and a fascinating volcanic environment. You will learn the difference between humid forest, dry tropical forest, and cloud forest. The volcano has nine craters and volcanic cones at its summit and several cones on its slopes, all with variable heights. Afterward, you will go to the Oropendola Waterfall to take a refreshing swim in its breathtaking, emerald green water.

DAY 7

Rincón de la Vieja – Guanacaste (1.10 hrs. 53.5 KM)

Today you will depart for the Pacific coast in the Guanacaste region, a lively province encompassing the northwest corner of Costa Rica and home to some of the country’s most beautiful beaches. Guanacaste has earned its name as a tropical paradise with an unspoiled coastline, beautiful mountains, and a series of majestic volcanoes. You’ll have the afternoon free to enjoy the beach and tour the town.

DAYS 8 & 9

Guanacaste

During these days, you can enjoy the hotel facilities and visit beautiful places in the area. Coordinate with the hotel reception for your sea kayaking tour (included).
Many nature and cultural activities let you discover the variety of native flora and fauna of the Guanacaste region and delight in breathtaking panoramic views of the coast. On a tour to a private farm, you can see beautiful Guanacaste trees along with monkeys, coatis, armadillos, and birds.

DAY 10

Guanacaste – International Airport (4 hrs approx. 246 KM)

Breakfast in the hotel.

Today you leave for the Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose. If your flight departs before 16:00 and you have a shared transfer scheduled, you will require a private transfer for an additional fee.
